I am having the same problem, and it is relatively recent. I teach online courses, and the students submit files as Word documents, and I add comments to the document to be returned to them. Until recently, I could resize the font in the comment balloons (and even change the style so that the change would apply automatically to all balloons in the document, new and existing). The default 10pt was readable, but I found that it was easier to use 11 or 12, using the font sizes the student had chosen to use in the document body. Starting a few days ago, I can NOT make the font appear in anything other a tiny font that is definitely smaller than the 10-point font. I go through the motions--changing the font size to selected text (all text in the balloon or even one specific word), and while the Font settings show that I have changed the size, it is not visibly larger. Even changing the style setting for Comment Text has no effect on anything visible. I can zoom the document to make it bigger, but then I can't see both the text in the document and my comments without scrolling back and forth. The one we want to look at is fonts and colors. Then you’ll see “message font,” you can go to “select” on the right-hand side and you can pick a larger font from there. One way is to change the zoom setting in the Reviewing Pane. This doesn’t change the actual font size, but it makes it easier to read! (Instructions on increasing font size in Comment balloons are here.) Scroll down for video demos using Word 365 (2016) for Mac and for Windows. Zoom to increase the font size. I have tried saving the files as Word 2010 files prior to adding comments, but it doesn't affect the performance at all. Thinking that it might have something to do with the original template used to create the document, I just created a new blank document in Word 2010 on my own computer, then added a comment balloon to that. While it does appear in the Comment Text style I created for my own computer (using 11-point instead of 10-point), I cannot make the text change size visibly. KW Addendum: Further experimentation shows that I can apply a different style to the text inside comment balloons, and that I can change the font size if the default Comment Text style is not used in the comment balloons. I am using the Balloon Text style as a workaround until problems are resolved with the Comment Text style. I would consider this a workaround, not a solution. Because the styles are template-based rather than profile based, the Balloon style has to be changed in each document created by a different user. This is very annoying when you have to work with 20 or more separate documents every week. I can't even add the style to access it easily from a ribbon or toolbar or create a macro because all of those settings are document based. As stated in the page linked by AngryMatt, 'Making the comments and other balloons readable and clear is an important part of gaining acceptance for using tracked changes.' Nostalgia nothing. OS X 10.2: The classic Mac OS is retired VirtualDesktop.org also comes through with one of the earliest versions of OS X, Jaguar. Once again, if you want a fully functional version, you'll probably have to install a copy on a virtual machine. Mac snes emulator reddit pc. You can navigate through some of the system preferences, see an early version of the OS X dock, and start up Mail or Internet Explorer for Mac. The default font for balloons should be at least 10 points so that the user does not have to change this setting in every document. I teach at a university, and I use the Comments in Word to provide feedback to students on papers they submit electronically. It is not feasible for me to create a template and expect students to use it for their assignments. It's difficult enough to be sure that all students have a decent word processor available and to make sure they are converting the file to a Word-compatible format prior to submitting the file to be graded. Kim KW Well, being a university lecturer myself, I do understand the difficulties. So what we have to do is modify the Balloon Text and Comment Text styles in documents that students send to us. I too suffered from this until I discovered the secret: The font size in the comment balloon can only be altered by changing the font size of the BALLOON TEXT, not of the comment text itself. Only Microsoft would make it this convoluted. Go to Style options and make sure ALL styles are shown (not just popular ones) and then find Balloon text. Stefan Blom, Microsoft Word MVP I had never encountered this problem until today (that I recall) but it's a doozy and cost me quite a bit of time. It is true that the solution to this problem was posted in this thread some time ago. In the meantime, maybe Microsoft could hire someone to stop this problem from occurring (out of nowhere) and then to make it easier to find how to edit balloon text size. If Microsoft puts its minds to it, I know it can do it.
